Way back in 1678, Sir StreynsHam Master of the East India Company recognized the need for a chapel in Chennai and commenced construction on March 25th, Lady Day. By October 28th, 1680, the impressive structure was completed, almost as if it appeared overnight! During the Second Carnatic War from 1758 to 1759, this robust church, with its bomb-proof roof, served as barracks and a storage facility for grain.
